Use an Apple Slicer to Cut Potatoes Even Faster

Given how much we love multi-functional kitchen equipment, you probably won't be surprised to hear we avoid unitaskers, like apple slicers, as much as possible. But if you already have one taking up space in your drawer, here's a secondary purpose for it: potato cutter.

If you need to chop up a pile of spuds for beef stew, mashed potatoes, curries, or anything else that calls for potato chunks, here's what you do: Cut the potato in half crosswise to create a flat surface, then stand up it, flat side down, and run the apple corer through it. Voilà! Your potato has just gone from one piece to seven pieces with the mere effort of a single slice.

We wouldn't recommend you go out and buy an apple corer for this purpose alone, but if you already own one, we've got to admit: it's pretty handy.
