Tax second opinion

TurboTax for the web is an online alternative to buying the standalone software. Online TurboTax doesn't make you pay until you actually file, so it's a great "second opinion" on your taxes.

So, apprehensive tax do-it-yourselfers: complete your tax forms on the TurboTax site but don't file 'em, just write down the amount you owe or will be refunded. Then head over to a tax accountant office (like H&R Block, for instance), and ask if they can get you a better deal. If so, great. If not, file using whichever method is cheaper.

Presumably to avoid an April 15th web site stampede, there's an early bird discount for a "Basic" return filed on TurboTax for the web until February 13th. That's three days away.
