If you received a portable blender as a gift over the holiday—or if you've purchased one in the last three years—you may need to cease all smoothie-making and return it. BlendJet is recalling 4.8 million of its BlendJet 2 blenders, which have been on the market since 2020, due to reports of base units overheating and catching fire as well as blades breaking off.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has noted 329 instances of blades breaking and 17 of the blenders overheating as well as one laceration, 49 minor burns, and $150,000 in property damage. Consumer Reports found similar hazards when testing the BlendJet 2's durability.
Which BlendJet blenders are being recalled?
BlendJet is recalling 4.8 million BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders with serial numbers whose first four digits are between 5201 and 5542. (You can find the serial number on the bottom of the base unit.) These blenders were sold from Oct. 2020 through Nov. 2023 in the US and Canada on BlendJet.com as well as through retailers like Costco, Target, and Walmart.
According to BlendJet, products currently on the market are not subject to recall.
What do I do if my BlendJet 2 has been recalled?
If your BlendJet 2 matches the serial numbers listed above, stop using it right away. You'll need to verify that your unit is subject to recall by entering the serial number on BlendJet's recall page under "Is My Product Recalled?" or calling the company at (844) 334-0562 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Eastern. If you have multiple blenders, you'll need to check each separately.
If your unit is being recalled, you'll be prompted to fill out a registration form to receive a replacement. Once directed, you will need to remove and save the jar and top and then remove and cut the rubber seal into three pieces. Finally, you'll need to take a photo of your destroyed blender to submit with your claim. BlendJet will send you a new base unit within 4–6 weeks—you do not need to send the bad base back.
You do not need the original receipt to submit a claim, but you do need to have the base in your possession to provide photo verification.
