When you post an Instagram story, it's visible to others for only 24 hours, after which it disappears from your main feed—but it's not lost and gone forever. Instagram stories are actually saved to a private part of your profile, and you can go back and view or reshare them at any time.

Access your Instagram story archive

Go to your profile page, tap the three vertical lines in the upper right corner of your screen, and select Archive. From here, you can view archived stories as well as archived posts and Instagram Lives (tap “Archive” at the top of the screen to toggle between them). Tap on the story to watch it.

Reshare an archived story

Tap the Share on the bottom toolbar and select either Share or Close Friends. You can also add it to Highlights (which remain on your Instagram profile page) by tapping Highlight and selecting an existing highlight or creating a new one.

Finally, you can share the story as a static post to your profile by clicking More > Share as post. You can also save the story as a photo or delete it permanently.

Instagram will automatically archive all of your Stories (privately) unless you disable the feature. To do that, tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the Archive screen and click Settings in the pop-up menu that appears at the bottom. Toggle the Save to Archive button to the off position.
