If your inbox is awash with spam and you're not married to your email program, consider switching to the free Thunderbird email client software.
Brought to you by the same fine folks who produced the Firefox web browser, the Thunderbird email client has excellent Junk mail filtering out of the box. For the first couple of weeks, "train" the filter as you go: review the emails T-bird marks as junk and unmark 'em if the program was wrong, or if a spam email slips by into your inbox, mark it as Junk. Like an obedient guard dog, with a little training, Thunderbird gets smarter and more effective over time as you teach it. Set Thunderbird to move everything it thinks is spam to another folder to get junk out of your inbox and out of your way. Thunderbird will work with any email provider (Update: except Hotmail or Webmail, thanks Loch!), on Mac or PC, and it's free (as in speech.) Good stuff.
